Ugh, once upon a time when I was a good democrat, I adored the Oscars. Made sure to see every nomination, attended Oscar parties for the awards show....yada yada...that was all before. Now that I can see, i am disgusted and ashamed to say the least. I have zero interest in Hollywood now. Thank you Sasha for telling it like it is.

Those children in the ABC documentary were definitely coached. I have a 7 and an almost 10 yo grandchildren and they do not even know the terms lesbian, transgender, queer, or gay. They are children with very good reading skills and a full library to choose books each week. Of course, they are not allowed to watch shows/movies inappropriate for their age, have a mother and father fully engaged in their well being, and attend church on Sundays. These children in the documentary have been exposed to lifestyles not normally exposed to children and now there’s a big push for full indoctrination. It’s called grooming and it’s evil. Let children be kids.

Damn, I love Mamet. He really rubs everyone the wrong way -- including me, at times -- yet doesn't give a flying F. How refreshing.

His opinion of entertainment is one that my husband and I share, having been actors years ago in NYC. Propping up boring, pretentious, moralizing plays (or movies) with pandering reviews isn't sustainable. If the "entertainment" isn't entertaining, it shouldn't be called as such. Call it a lecture, call it a sermon, or if you're particularly courageous, call it what it really is: propaganda. And let it fail spectacularly at the box office when the people vote with their attention.

David Mamet called teachers pedophiles on Fox News last year. He can get fucked. And I say this as someone who used to be a fan of his.

The teachers and schools that push homosexuality on children are most certainly short eyes pedos. And you shouldn’t feel compelled to defend that simple truth.

Nice try, but you're full of shit. Schools don't "push" homosexuality on kids because no one person is capable of forcing someone to change their sexual orientation. This is all part of your culture war nonsense that threatens to drag this country back to the Stone Age. Log off, loser.

Jeremy, there’s no shame in being a homosexual but there is in having short eyes.

I have not heard of the vast majority of these actors , let alone the movies themselves. These are the faces of the people who are largely responsible for the destruction of this country. That's the bottom line for me.

You just have to wonder why in god's name would someone want to write a children's book using a bunch of drag queens who dance? And I know the question has been asked before, but why do drag queens feel compelled to conduct story hour with children? As a lesbian, I walked away from any sort of association with the multi-lettered, inclusionary 'movement' long ago.

Don't watch four hours of "Killers of the Flower Moon". Spend that time reading (or listening) to the wonderful book of the same name. And you'll find a surprise - some FBI agents that actually cared about real victims, who were first victimized, legally, by the paternalistic Federal Government. If only woke Hollywood really understood the story.

I have not seen the movie, sorry I gave that impression. But do read.or listen to the book. What a story about events and people I was completely unaware of.

ok...i will be honest..i have not read your post yet..just the title...but for me...NOTHING can bring me back. these pathetic elitists are so far beyond my view of the world...i could not care less about any of it. AND i have no intention of every watching a hollywood movie again...my time is way too precious and i have too many interesting ways to spend it. i am not merely "passing the time" until i die. i am actively engaged in a meaningful life...you are also sasha! thanks for your work!

Can the Oscar nominations bring viewers back?

Of course not! They just aren’t relevant outside their own bathroom mirror.

I saw quite a few movies last year and Sound of Freedom was definitely the best. The Holdovers was excellent, probably the 2nd best of the year imo. I saw Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon, both were good but not great. I also saw American Fiction and it was ok but I didn't think it was that good.

I see a lot of conservatives say they tune out from things like sports and entertainment because of how they've gone left wing/woke. And I think this is wrong, because great art can be made by someone who is a lunatic, and someone can be great at basketball or football and have ridiculous political beliefs. These are separate things and we shouldn't disconnect and therefore concede the culture to the left. I can easily appreciate a great performance by Lebron James and still condemn his political views. There is no contradiction there.

I am still amazed with the clarity, comprehensiveness and creativity that Ms Stone weaves into her essays and podcasts. Each one is a blessing for us deplorable. Further, those poor children that have been groomed and indoctrinated into homosexuality. Leave the kids alone ffs. And yea, the teachers and public schools that groom these kids are pedophiles.

"Most people don’t know that the Academy expanded their Best Picture ballot in 2008 from five to ten because why would they?"

Ten is a ridiculous number of nominees. I could see seven, but every year, there are always one or two movies who are nominated for Best Picture and don't deserve it. What could really use an expansion, IMO, is the number of nominees for the acting awards. I feel like every year has several people who might have ended up nominees in other years, but had the misfortune to have their film released during a year that their category was a crowded field.

"The movie that won’t be announced tomorrow is Sound of Freedom, which landed in the top ten box office of the year, beating both Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. To Hollywood and the Oscars, however, it is like it never happened."

Even if Hollywood had loved Sound of Freedom when it was released, I think the recent allegations against Tim Ballard would have booted it out of the running for the Oscars.

I haven't see the film, but I've noticed that while its fans talk a lot about how it's "important," they never say anything about the artistry behind it. It's never, "Jim Caviezel has such a fantastic performance," or "the cinematography is just stunning," or anything else. It kind of reminds me of the independent gay movies in the 2000s. No one had much to say about the artistry, but supporting them was supposed to be socially/politically "important."

It's a powerful film, and it's powerful because of the story and how the actors deliver it. Cavaziel is in fact brilliant and the young actor playing the boy delivers a remarkably poignant performance. Every single character is believable and that's because of great writing and great performances. It's an action film, a crime drama, and moving human interest story --- all in one. And it was made despite Hollywood.

Thank you for the advance warning about the short films. It’s been the only and I mean only thing I’ve paid attention to for 10 years. Also agree the movies used to be so good, just so good. Even as late as 2016, 2017 the shorts were amazing. Oh well. Opportunity for smart people to build the next industry.

The kids on the vid are definitely coached and indoctrinated. I have three kids, and two of them were reading at an eighth grade level in the third grade. They never spoke this way about LGBTQ anything, nor did they have any interest in these topics. Furthermore, the Drag Queen hip swish book is garbage for teaching reading, and it is not an ‘above level’ reading book for any kid. It’s pure propaganda.

There was a Chicken Run sequel? I never even knew that came out and I loved the original. If Oppenheimer doesn't win Best Picture, the Oscar's broadcast is dead and buried forever. It was popular and critically acclaimed just like Titanic. It would be just as much a slap in the face to normal moviegoers as when Shakespeare in Love beat Saving Private Ryan (and I'm still pissed off about that 25 years later).
