The people writing now in Hollywood are mostly ill or uneducated ignorant hacks who don’t read books, know zero history - any history! - and have less imagination and intelligence than an ant. They are just robotic creations of their insular habitat which just feeds off of one another. They are incapable of creating anything truly creative or memorable because it would have to be run through a gauntlet of DIE overlords of political correctness and soul crushing directives to even get off the ground.
They’ve made their bed and they’re all gonna die in it.
Killers of the Flower Moon, Past Lives, Poor Things, and internationally - Anatomy of a Fall, Zone of Interest. Do you watch documentaries? Lots of good stuff to be seen. I don't get the Hollywood trashing unless it's considered part of the mainstream that must be smothered at all cost.
Maybe heartland viewers prefer the prurient and My 600 Pound Life - entertainment that takes them out of their own miserable existence. I'm basing the "miserable" part on the fire and brimstone unhappiness on display at The 4th Wall.
My wife and I watched HBO's John Adams for the past week for the first time in 7-8 years. It's one of HBO's finest efforts, and having David McCullough's biography as source material made it even more special.
I have to admit, it depressed me more than I experienced previously. How did we drift his far? When you count up the dead and maimed who've fought for this country over the last 300 years, and think, we're just handing this over to a generation (or two) who truly knows nothing about how we got here and at what cost.
As much as I like your Substack articles, I definitely wouldn’t have read your previous years, prior to 2020 when you saw the light. For all those who thought Obama was the anointed one, I thought they had been hoodwinked by ‘white guilt’ and lost their minds. If people would have read his book or questioned his attending Jeremy Wright’s church for years, they would have seen the charlatan he is. As far as his list of movies, I don’t even recognize the titles except for one. I had the misfortune of watching Leave the World Behind on Netflix, only because I thought it would be good with Julia Roberts acting. When I saw where Barack & Michele were exec producers, I knew why the movie had anti-white sentiments throughout. The movie was a waste of time and Roberts was disappointing. The whole theme was ridiculous and a stupid ending. As far as Barbie saving the Globe, I doubt it. I only saw the trailer and thought it looked silly. Hollywood only knows how to do sequels, as the true writing talent is either gone or can’t appease the woke executives to come up with anything worth watching.
Yeah I watched leave the world behind with interest when I saw Michelle and Barack were executive producers. While I thought it was really good, I did notice the anti-white stuff creeping in and the ending was awful, it just ended in the middle -a sloppy, lazy ending. I'd like to see something more go on because I thought that was the movie was quite gripping and I thought Julie Roberts was really good in it.
To each their own opinion, but it definitely wasn’t gripping and bordered on lunacy. I kept waiting for something to happen that wasn’t so ridiculous, but never did and then just ended with no ending. I like Roberts, but she hasn’t aged well and wasn’t the beauty she once was. Her acting has deteriorated also. JMO
I only watched the trailer and could tell it was a movie I wasn’t going to waste my time on. I like watching international made movies. They actually have some meaning to them. As far as I can tell they aren’t controlled by Hollywood Woketopia.
Readers might want to take an hour and watch this video about 'Leave the World Behind.' I haven't seen the movie-watched the trailer and it looked stupid. But these researchers have uncovered some scary sh$t on subliminal messaging: https://www.bitchute.com/video/Jl0ECKHY4mrP/
?????? Israel as a friend of the U.S.The Wokesters believe that? No, it's the Wokesters who have been marching, swarming, on behalf of Hamas for the last three months.
Israel is intelligent. They're a friend of themselves. Other powers can make strong alliances with such a nation. They can be counted on.
Unfortunately, we don't have that kind of wise leadership.
Charles Curtis, Republican Vice President under Herbert Hoover, was Native American and a member of the Kaw Nation. But the Left thinks it beat racism in high office around 80 years later.
Hollywood did need a correction back in the day, but they over-corrected and they're now speeding in reverse and heading over the cliff. Dave Chappelle is a national treasure and I believe the comedians are going to be the ones to save us.
People know, or at least sense, that their notions about climate change, Covid, Trump, Russia, systemic racism, transgenderism, etc., can't withstand critical scrutiny and so they try to shut down critics.
Great piece as always, Sasha. I rwally admire people who can admit they were wrong about something. We're almost at the full movie awards collapse and this year will probably be it. Oppenheimer was a critical and commercial success that should be the winner of Best Picture and help get the audience back. However, Hollywood is dumb and suicidal at this point. Best Picture will probably go to American Fiction (intersectionality!) or Poor Things which hardly anyone outside Hollywood will have seen. Nolan might win Best Director in an attempt to pacify the masses, but Hollywood will seal the death of the awards show if Oppenheimer loses. It reminds me of when Saving Private Ryan (an instant classic) lost to Shakespeare in Love (forgotten about 2 weeks after). Never underestimate Hollywood's stupidity. BTW, Bigelow deserved the win in 2009 for The Hurt Locker.
Add to this mess the horrible and excessive use of CGI and the endless repetition of story lines and death dive of once famous family movie studios into sick indoctrination.
Hollywood has sunk even lower than the days when Stalin did all their writing for them.
Gender is not real. It has no physical dimension. That's why wokesters like it. They can claim that it means anything they say it means.
Gender is a weapon, in other words, a weapon that the woke use to bludgeon their enemies into submission.
They claim that a man can be a woman, which erases in one stroke the gains that women have made. For evidence look no further than the odious Lia Thomas.
Transgenderism isn't about freedom or liberation. It's about power.
He's disgraceful because he pretends to be a woman in order to further his career as a swimmer, a career that was apparently unremarkable until he discovered that pretending to be a woman allowed him to "win" competitions.
Oh yes! The lady plastered all over the Fox homepage for months when they were going on and on and on about horrors of MTF trans folk participating on women's college sport teams.
I did an online search of "how many MTF trans people play on women's college sports team."
Results:
Nationally...
Of the estimated 332 million citizens living in the United States, 1.3 million adults and 300,000 youth ages 13 to 17 identify as transgender, equaling half a percent and 1.4 percent of the population respectively, according to a report published by Williams Institute, a think tank at UCLA's Law School in 2022. Not all transgender people identify as women, and an even smaller number consists of transgender women hoping to compete in girls' and women's sports. Privacy laws make it tough to identify the exact number of transgender athletes competing in public school sports, but researcher and medical physicist Joanna Harper estimates the number can't exceed 100 nationwide. 100 in a country with almost 332 million people.
One state example:
17 transgender female athletes have competed in Ohio high school sports over the past eight years, representing an “indistinguishable percentage” of the 350,000+ student athletes who compete each year.

Now I don't watch them unless something I really like is, one, up for an award, and, two, has a decent chance of winning it. I think the last time I watched the Oscars was when James Ivory won Best Adapted Screenplay for "Call Me By Your Name" - in addition to liking that movie, I'm a big Merchant Ivory fan, and I had to see him finally get an Oscar at age 89. (Everyone agreed ahead of time that he had it in the bag.) Then I went right to bed because the "it's his turn" principle that seems to determine Best Actor meant there was no way Timothee Chalamet was beating Gary Oldman.
The last time I watched the Golden Globes must have been...oh, God. Maybe 2006?
As always Sasha, thank you for the entertaining essay on the Golden Globes. Especially the embedded videos. Ricky had me cracking up! But Dave Chappelle had me laughing so hard I had to get out of my easy chair to recover!
And since you often entertain us with your movie knowledge, some of my favorite movies include:
1. Shawshank Redemption (who can’t love that redemption)
2. The Usual Suspects (a twisted plot that twists all the way to the end)
3. Blazing Saddles ( cornball gutter humor that still appeals to me 50 years later)
4. Mr. Blanding Builds His Dream Home (the maid saves the day with the catchy ad phrase “if you ain’t eatin’ Wham, you ain’t eatin’ ham!)

I'd be for smothering them with a pillow if it were possible.
It is hard to imagine any of the great movies in Hollywood history being made today, even in today's terms.
I don't doubt some good things get made. Does any of it leave viewers with affection for it?
Maybe heartland viewers prefer the prurient and My 600 Pound Life - entertainment that takes them out of their own miserable existence. I'm basing the "miserable" part on the fire and brimstone unhappiness on display at The 4th Wall.
These are pop cultural references which leave me as baffled as The Beatles left the Byrneses, my 85 year old neighbors in 1964.
That's a rather pessimistic outlook. I gather you are not a movie or TV fan, given the brilliance of what is on display currently.
My wife and I watched HBO's John Adams for the past week for the first time in 7-8 years. It's one of HBO's finest efforts, and having David McCullough's biography as source material made it even more special.

A perfect summary of why we can’t elect another warmongering neocon like Nikki the Neocon or Democratic Party Neocon Inc.
Two thumbs up for John Adams mini series. Paul Giamatti was perfect in that role, playing (as usual) his insecure, neurotic self.

Good choice not to watch. I kept waiting for it to get better, but by the end was pi$$ed I wasted so much time.

Well gone, bravo !
The problem with the wokesters is that they believe in lies.
Climate change, transgenderism, systemic racism, J6, the menace of Trump, Russia-China as threats, Israel as a friend of the US -- all false.
What do you mean when you say transgenderism is false? Does that even make sense in the sense that some are transgendered.
Saying something is true doesn't make it true.
So my friend Regenia who is transgendered is not transgendered?
In her own mind, she is transgendered.
But that's the only place she is transgendered.
I thought if you said it a hundred times and wrote it down a dozen times it was true! Oh snap there goes all my principles.
"My truth" is only that, "my truth."
People who claim to be "transgendered" are solipsistic in the extreme.
You're entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts.
One cannot change their gender.
So whatever you disagree with is shit false
I'm done humoring idiots.
Hey do whatever you want its very clear you live in a bubble of your own making.
How so?
Look at your first comment and tell me that is not a partisan bubble post

But that only reveals the falsity of their views.
For the most part, Hollywood produces a terrible product, and terrible products don't make money.
Here in Australia I had no idea the golden globes were on today. Who is in a bubble? Amr Australia
I’m in America and I didn’t know either. Lol
And I didn’t (don’t) care!
👍

Sex is real. You are either male or female.
Gender is not real. It has no physical dimension. That's why wokesters like it. They can claim that it means anything they say it means.

Transgenderism isn't about freedom or liberation. It's about power.
Lia Thomas
Correct
Huh?
Some babies are born with physical characteristics that are male and female.
That's apparently rare but it happens.
The popular term "transgender" is merely an assertion on the part of the person claiming to be transgender.
The disgraceful Lia Thomas is a case in point. He claims to be a she but he is obviously a he.
Transgenderism is a stick the woke use to beat others into submission. It's about power, not freedom.
The only Lia Williams I'm seeing following a quick online search is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lia_Williams#Selected_television_credits
Is that who you are referring to? Why is this person disgraceful?
I was in error.
I meant Lia Thomas.
He's disgraceful because he pretends to be a woman in order to further his career as a swimmer, a career that was apparently unremarkable until he discovered that pretending to be a woman allowed him to "win" competitions.
He's a grifter.

This is worthy of such foaming at the mouth hate?
What did I say that was hateful, in your view?
Rolling Stone video, Dave Chappelle clip and "Field of Dreams" clip are awesome. Also, thank you for another thoughtful piece.
Great article Sasha!
