Selecting age-appropriate books for a school library is not book banning. Book banning is when North Korea bans everybody from reading the Bible.

Or when Amazon refuses to allow its supposedly "independent" merchants to sell certain titles on its platform because the DNC objects.

Sasha, Truly curious, did you always suspect Hollywood to be an arm of the democrat party and accepted it? Or was there a sudden epiphany when it all became clear?

For me, the Oscars used to be about art and achievement. As a little girl, I'm pretty sure my parents held off saving anything about Hollywood's political bent- just like they did with the truth about Santa Claus-for fear of breaking my heart.

Even though I'm a screenwriter, the awards mean nothing to me. The bias is too disturbing to watch.

They needed to nominate Sound Of Freedom to be taken seriously.

As much as I hope for a HUGE win for Trump in NH today, I hope no one watches the entitled, woke, Hollywood bitches (all their genders) tonight.

Advocacy is not the same as documentary - a fairly significant distinction that escapes the Academy.

I’ve never understood - year after year - why films will be nominated for best picture but not best director. Seems to happen every year. Where’s the logic?🤷‍♀️

This year, as you point out, Greta Gerwig is snubbed. Is that Hollywood jealous mean girls or what??

And Alexander Payne should have been nominated for The Holdovers. He’s SUCH a brilliant director!!!😡

I wonder why the author did poorly with her predictions? I assume they were based on how she thought the voters would vote and not on something more abstract like what she thought were the best pictures, directors, actors, etc.

Can we give it for Sandra Hüller my friends!

A German actress in 2 best pic nominees, both in German with Anatomy of a Fall also in French and English. Both films nominated for best director & screenplay. Sandra gets best actress nom for Anatomy. Not bad!

Did a quick search and found this online - PEN America counted school book bans in the 2022-2023 school year, and found 3,362 book bans affecting 1,557 unique titles, with more than 40% of the bans occurring in Florida. This is the list of the most banned books in the 2022-2023 school year, according to the PEN America Index of School Book Bans. as of Sep 21, 2023. So not seeing where it's up to 6k.

Not sure why a writer would champion book banning in schools.

Not 1 book was banned in Florida. Or any other state. All freely available for purchase, no possible punishment for owning. The question is which books should be purchased with public funds, who should have a say in that process, and whether sexually explicit books truly belong in elementary school libraries. The whole "banned books" charade is a laughable farce, a shallow power play by the ALA to try to intimidate parents from engaging in their children's education.

Many of us do not support books being banned for sale. However, when books in public schools are pushing ideologies, some of which fly in the face of our founding documents, many that border on being pornographic and some outright so, we have a duty to speak out. I would say that writers that speak out are people of courage, conviction and integrity!

Those that just look at the numbers vs actually reading the books in question and then trying speaking to some of the upset parents/grandparents to try and understand their concerns … well, I think you can guess some of the descriptors I might apply to those folks - will settle for intellectually shallow.

I am with you. When the Twilight movie came out and my daughter wanted to see it, I was on the fence because I was listening to others. I took the book out from the library, and read it. I did like it. I let her see the movie. What I see going on now is so misleading. Parents are not allowed to be parents.
