I don’t really watch Nerdrotic, I will admit, but I do like Critical Drinker and will almost always watch his videos. The two of them have been doing interviews together, which you may appreciate. Much of what they discuss is not exactly my world. I don’t think much about fan culture or superhero movies or anything like that.
But I do know that Hollywood cultivated one kind of audience for decades then turned around and shamed them for being who they are and liking what they like. Doesn’t seem like the best business model to me? But I generally like listening to them talk because at least I know they will be honest.
I especially like Nerdrotic’s comments on the Oscars in the video below. I agree with him that they’ve turned away their audience, along with Hollywood, not just by being “woke” but by focusing on such an insular group of people with very specific problems that don’t translate to the broader public in any meaningful way.
They did this interview a month ago:
Unfortunately, there aren’t any voices in the mainstream that feel like driving a spike through the heart of Hollywood, which means change will be slow. Fear still drives film coverage and the film industry. They don’t want to be called out, humiliated or seen as bad people.
Critical Drinker had a recent episode that asked if the Girlboss is over.
Unfortunately, I don’t think so. Hollywood still cares more about getting good ink in high-minded magazines than it does about what YouTubers like Critical Drinker think.
The Girlboss is probably here to stay in one form or another.
It just gets old, how Hollywood has this childish, infantile skin deep view of human beings. You see it with all these stories they do where the basis essentially is 'Hey guys, this story used to be done with white people/men, now we've got a person of color or woman in the role! Isn't that great and wonderful!' And it's just tiring that they can't realize that what a truly just world would require is for sex or skin color to have NO value at all, that everyone would be treated on their merit and actions as a human being. But that sadly seems to be the last thing they want to do.
Look at the actual rules the academy has implemented to even get nominated. It's insane! A movie like the Irishman would have ZERO chance of being nominated bc it features all white men. When you start infringing upon the content of what an artist can produce you've gone too far. It's quite simply an overreach. https://sabrinalabow.substack.com/p/diversity-equality-and-ideological?utm_source=post-email-title&publication_id=661344&post_id=137606238&utm_campaign=email-post-title&isFreemail=true&r=k6jio&triedRedirect=true
