Loved both Eddie and Norm, but I also loved Mike Meyers and Dana Carvey... And Norm was still doing the news, until they fired him for telling the truth about OJ.
I’m 74, watched the premiere episode from a Miami hotel room during my stewardess years. SNL has not been funny for decades. It started with them giving the Clintons a complete pass.
Just ONE decade??? I’d say more like FOUR decades. Maybe you had to be there to witness when they had the best comedians ever. And the writers were fearless!
Sasha, your work ethic is next level.. Two days after your boffo (note the Hollywood reference) story on Pratt Summer, you are out with this perceptive piece. Don't know how you do it... actually I do, it's by working more or less continually.
Kind of a variant on the old biker motto: "Live to write/ Write to live."
Are you an old biker?? And I don’t mean taking the bike out on Sunday with your old lady for ice cream. I mean riding it to work until your face froze. LOL At this point I’d introduce you to my husband.
I just watched the SNL clip that you posted, & it was HILARIOUS, just like watching The View. Many of my conservative friends & family think I'm absolutely crazy to be amused by these things, but it's much better than being angry or alarmed. All I can do is vote for change and hope for a better future.....
It's so disgusting to realize what Tucker really is. I had high hopes at one point. Jew haters should start their own party and leave the normies alone. I'm to the point where I'd rather lose than be associated with their disgusting beliefs. And, oh, SNL: Irrelevant. Dead to me for a long, long time.
Tucker doesn’t hate Israel. He doesn’t hate Jews. He just asks lots of questions and wonders why so many of our elected officials seem to have more loyalty to this small country than they do to the people they represent. And he wonders like a lot of others from every POV why we send so much money to arm it when they are literally killing countless innocent women and children.
I happen to be Jewish. And was brought up in the South during the waning days of Jim Crow so I think I have a lot more experience with bigotry and racism than many of those reading this.
And this doesn’t mean I agree with Tucker but he’s certainly has a right to express how he feels just the same as you and me. Since the bombing of Iran began, I’ve been quiet because I’m confused about much of what’s happening. Maybe Trump is doing the right thing destroying Iran’s army and offing their fanatical leaders. Maybe he’s not doing it because Netanyahu wants him to. I hope this will work out well and few die needlessly. Same as you do.
But I ask you Sasha and all of your readers to understand that there is a lot of uncertainty involved here and to please try not to use the word hate so casually. There is a lot of evil in the world and they want us fighting. That’s their stock in trade. Don’t fall for it.
Sasha, an English major here. I am impressed by the mallifluous turns of phrase you've employed in your latest article. For instance, "They treat the other half of the country like insects in a jar." Nice! I can readily see that with my mind's eye, along with the detached curiosity and disdain that that suggests."Saturday Night Live serves as a cuddly, warm blanket for the Aderoll generation, who are traumatized by the 8-hour workday." Again, instant visualization. Well done !
That movie trailer was awful! How dumb do you have to be to try to make a movie about SNL when just turning on old episodes will immediately show how bad the portrayal is?
Here is what i have never understood about SNL, and every other late night comedy show.....aren't there more fun things to do late at night than watch late night tv?
DM me for suggestions...just kidding! Make your own fun....i am sure you can figure something out.
You’re not being too harsh. SNL hasn’t been funny for at least a decade.
“SNL hasn’t been funny for at least a 𝚍̶𝚎̶𝚌̶𝚊̶𝚍̶𝚎̶.”
Decades. Plural.
Maybe since the 90s? That's the last time I found it worth tuning in to.
I would say ‘80’s; the political angle had been toned down & they had Eddie Murphy & Norm MacDonald.

Wow, SNL has been around since the days of "stewardesses"... I kind of miss those times...
Just ONE decade??? I’d say more like FOUR decades. Maybe you had to be there to witness when they had the best comedians ever. And the writers were fearless!
They haven't been funny since Dana Carvey and Mike Meyers and Phil Hartmann. Dana Carvey playing Strom Thurmond was gold.
Obsessed with Isreal? Seriously?
Talk about obsession with Isreal? OMG
That's correct, Tucker is now "obsessed" with Israel.. You too, from what I can tell..
What? Who did you think I was referring to?

You’re right. I don’t bother to watch SNL either. Thank you Sasha.
2.3% of the United States watches it. And they are proud of that.

Sigh... MATT DAMON!(movie TeamAmerica)... One of the greatest actors of my lifetime... What a joke.
We just have to move on to actually funny people like @BenBankas who is surgical with his Leftist insults.
Not too harsh. All the arts are numb. Imagine the great movies that could be made now if they were unleashed!
By the way, your Mother’s Day piece was so good. I’m 71, so it was all in context for me.
They can be preachy or funny, but not both. They prefer preachy.
I think of today's SNL as Brainwashing Light--at best.

The days of that ignorant slut Jane are gone forever.

HARSH? lol ... you're being far too polite and, dare I say it? Fair.
