The beautiful Minoan paintings from Crete (ca 1200 BC) show exactly what the people in Homer’s poems looked like. Nolan has no excuse.

When people say woke is “over” they don’t mean every true believer has given it up. They mean that, in society as a whole, the spell has been broken. The vibe has shifted. The frog was being slowly boiled, but they turned up the heat too fast and he jumped out of the pot. Now the forces of cancel culture can’t easily whip up a mob to get you fired for stating something that was common sense for most of human history, like “You can’t change a man into a woman.”

Hollywood, though, has long lead times. Disney got caught with their Snow White disaster, and I think Nolan may suffer the same fate. It may take another year or so for the ultra-woke stuff to clear the pipeline. It may still exist in some form, in part due to the idiotic Academy race quotas. But eventually we’ll see more films like Project Hail Mary that skip the politics and do well because of that.

Lupita Nyong’o is black

Helen of Troy was white.

Hollywood can go f*** itself.

That...that...that's all folks!

Brilliant.

Odyssey=stupid flop.

Sasha - I’ll donate $100 to your favorite charity if it finishes in the green after theater split and marketing.

Nolan’s folly.

Interesting related factoid, re the video for “She’s a Beauty”: the young boy on the carnival ride is Robert Arquette, who later ‘transitioned’ to Alexis Arquette (and unfortunately died too young, supposedly from HIV). So many crazy/sad threads in the entertainment industries…

I'm a massive Nolan fan, but I'm sitting this out in protest. Hollywood needs to be sent a message that we don't want DEI shoved down our throats.

I just read a version of the Odyssey to my kids recently, and you can’t convince me that this movie hasn’t been all around poorly cast. Matt Damon just does not ooze the kind of rugged masculinity Odysseus of the story clearly has. It’s like casting Matthew Broderick as the voice of Simba… completely ruined the Lion King for me. No way James Earl Jones’ Mufasa would produce such a namby-pamby voiced offspring. Just my opinion of course!

Nolan is pushing too far. His digressions have gone from artistic to jarring, and defeat the necessary suspension of disbelief. My guess is the public won’t be able to get past obsessing about his experiments and box office will crash through the floor, but who knows? I’ve been wrong before and will be again.

Looking at a side-by-side comparison . On one side by any basic metric ,the black woman is ugly ,she looks malnourished and sickly, compared to an extraordinarily healthy and beautiful as well as intelligence Sydney Sweeney, if you can't tell the difference you are truly lost.

There are some beautiful black women, but this isn’t one of them.

Will be subscribing soon! Thought we would give Hollywood one more chance with Animal Farm since it was produced by Angel Studios. It was boring and no one could sit through it without feeling the subversive lecture. This is one of the reasons there is a rise in Korean dramas on streaming platforms. Nice clean escapes from the harshness of reality with beautiful women & handsome men… Hollywood from the 1950s… we will see how long before these change with $$$$ from Netflix, Amazon, etc.

Actually, casting a Black actress as Helen of Troy doesn't violate the original source material. In the original story, Helen is fathered by the god Zeus when he transforms into a swan and impregnates a mortal woman. Also, Helen is born when she hatches from an egg.

This topic has come up before regarding the casting of actors as characters in Greek mythology. The consensus is that since they are gods and demi-gods, and not human beings, you ought to be able to cast actors of any race to play them. It was an issue with the 2014 movie HERCULES, where the half-Black/half-Samoan actor Duane "the Rock" Johnson was cast as Hercules.

If they wanted to stop the insanity ( which they don’t) Sydney Sweeney should have been cast as Helen! Yeah, that’s never going to happen.

Unfortunately, have to agree with you about Harris as the 2028 nominee. She still has the full support of the black women, Sharpton and DNC's black PTB (Clyburn, Jeffries, Black Caucus, Donna Brazile, Minyon Moore aka people who forced her anointment in 2028) and the Obamas will lend their support even if they privately think she sucks (according to Parnes and Allen's Fight). The party wouldn't dare go against all that just like they didn't in 2024. They already re-ordered the primary states for the sake of inclusion (not that there was a real primary in 2024) all they have to do is keep the new order or reshuffle it to be even more favorable and whip the superdelegates to pledge to Harris. The fix is in.

"From the 2008 presidential election cycle to the 2020 presidential election cycle, the early Democratic primary states were Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and South Carolina.[5]Ahead of the 2024 presidential election, the Democratic Party's Rules and Bylaws Committee approved a slate of early primary states on February 3, 2023.[6] South Carolina was selected to hold a February 3, 2024, primary, followed by New Hampshire and Nevada on February 6, Georgia on February 13, and Michigan on February 27."
